W.A. Wise, a Levelland, Texas native, attended WNMU on a football scholarship earning four letters. He was team captain and earned All-Conference honors as a defensive end.
His distinguished coaching career began at Tucumcari, New Mexico, after a tour with the U.S. Army. He then coached at Eastern New Mexico University before returning to serve as chairman of the Physical Education Department at South Plains College in Levelland.
Wise is a notable track official, officiating at the 1984 Olympic trials and Olympic Fames, at the 1992 Olympic Trials, The Pan American Games, and NCAA national meet.
