Melinda Sue (Arcella) Luna graduated from Western New Mexico University in December 1993 after receiving a bachelor’s degree in administration of criminal justice. Luna played volleyball for WNMU under the direction of Binny Canales.
Luna played for Mesa Community College in Arizona before transferring to WNMU in 1992 for her junior season immediately made an impact. During the 1992 season, the Mustangs standout earned All-American and All-Region honors, was the NAIA District VIII Player of the Week, and All-Tournament in the HBU Orange and Blue Classic. She also was the team captain during the 1991 and 1992 seasons.
Luna is an instructional assistant at Noah Webster Basic School in Mesa, Arizona. She is married to Toro C. Luna, and they have two children, Aspen Sydel and Jose Trayton.
Luna has continued her pursuit of volleyball through coaching. She served as Desert Ridge (AZ) High School junior varsity coach in 2003 and Mesquite High School junior varsity coach from 2001-2002.
