Coach Beatty says:
"Yes. The golf course is three miles away from the campus. The class schedules are eclectic at best.
'Catching a ride' with teammates seems like a good and affordable idea at first, but over my 13 years here, I have seen this wear friendships to the point that finally the 'no-car kid' just doesn't make it to the course enough to make the team.
The analogy that I like to give parents is this: What if your next door neighbor decided that he didn't need a car because you had one and he could just 'catch a ride' with you? How long would your kindness and generosity last? You might say it’s not the same, or that you will give them gas money, but that never works. And sooner or later, your son or daughter will be at a disadvantage, which is not fair to them or me. They either won't be at the course enough or will borrow other people's car, and you or their parents won't know about it.
I recommend that parents buy or bring a 'beater' that just barely makes it to golf course every day, has a seating capacity of one, and dies automatically anytime it gets five miles out of town."
