Maxwell, Beyhan Select to All-Region Team

Senior Steven Maxwell
WNMU senior Steven Maxwell (Glasgow, Scotland/Bearsden Academy) and newcomer Patrick Beyhan (Albuquerque, NM/La Cueva High School) were named to the Division II Ping All-Central Region Team in men's golf. The talented twosome were among 104 players nationwide selected for the honor. The NCAA's Central Region is made up of schools in the RMAC and Northern Sun Athletic Conferences.

Maxwell wrapped up a solid four-year career at WNMU fourth on the all-time scoring average list with 75.62 over 128 rounds. His 74.2 average this season was the school's sixth-best in its history. The Glasgow, Scotland native shot par or better 29 times and had 13 top-10 finishes.

Beyhan, the RMAC Freshman of the Year, recorded a 74.4 mark in 35 rounds set the WNMU scoring record for a freshman. The 2010 New Mexico AAAAA State Champion recorded a low round of 66 and had four top-10 finishes over his first season as a Mustang.

Fort Lewis, who finished eighth in the NCAA Championship this year, and UC-Colorado Springs led the Central Region with three players each named to the all-region team. Both of those squads are losing four or their top five players as they head into the 2011-2012 season.

Colorado School of Mines joins WNMU with two players on the squad. CSU-Pueblo and Minnesota-Crookston had one player represented on the 12-man team.
