Eichenberger, Barnes, Byrne Recognized By RMAC

Second baseman Ashly Eichenberger (Scottsdale, AZ, Horizon High School, Central Arizona College) earned a spot on the 2011 RMAC First Team All-Conference, the RMAC announced Tuesday. The 12 RMAC head softball coaches selected the all-conference teams and awards. Coaches could not vote for their own players. Kaitlynn Barnes (Phoenix, AZ, Deer Valley High School) and Sarah Byrne (Glendale, AZ, Cactus High School, New Mexico State University) were placed on the Second Team.

Eichenberger currently ranks fourth in the conference in homeruns with 14 (.26 HR/G), eighth in hits with 62 (1.17 H/G), sixth in doubles with 14 (.26 2B/G), sixth in total bases with 120 (2.26 TB/G), 10th in RBIs with 44 (.83 RBI/G), and 10th in slugging percentage with .706.

On the team, Eichenberger leads the team in doubles and walks (17) and is second in batting average (.365), runs (41), on-base percentage (.433), assists (92), home runs, total bases.

With only one RMAC catcher placed on each team, Barnes had solid statistics but found a home on the second team. She ranks first in the conference in total bases (142), third in batting average (.439), third in hits (76), third in slugging percentage (.821), fourth in on-base percentage (.485), second in runs scored (49), third in runs batted in (54), and third in homeruns (16). She leads the team in those same categories as well as triples (3) and stolen bases (11-13). Barnes also has only six strikeouts on 173 at-bats, the lowest on the team.

Byrne, who was sidelined early in the season, has come on strong. She currently leads the team in putouts (285). She is also third on the team in batting average with .358, second on the team doubles with 12, second on the team in homeruns with 14, second on the team in slugging percentage with .766, and second in walks with 16.

Although Byrne filling a first base spot, she also saw time as a WNMU pitcher. She had nine appearances and posted a 3-2 record with a 5.19 earned run average. She also recorded one save.

Barnes and Byrne both were also awarded RMAC Player of the Week honors.
