After a fifth place conference finish earlier this week, three Mustangs received top honors from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
Patrick Beyhan (Albuquerque, NM, La Cueva High School) was named RMAC Freshman of the Year and placed on the Second Team All-RMAC. Senior
Steven Maxwell (Glasgow, Scotland, Bearsden Academy) was also placed on the Second Team All-RMAC, and transfer
Michael Lopez (Phoenix, AZ, North High School, Phoenix College) landed on the Third Team.
The RMAC all-conference teams are comprised of the top 15 individuals based on the three (3) best scores of the four mandatory events. The golfer with the lowest stroke average using the three best scores of the four mandatory events is the Golfer of the Year, while the freshman with the lowest stroke average using the three best scores of the four mandatory is the Freshman of the Year. The Coach of the Year is voted on by each of the ten head coaches.
CSU-Pueblo's Chad Novak was named the RMAC Player of the Year. His coach, Josh Koschke, was selected as the Coach of the Year.
Although Beyhan had a rough start to his career as a Mustang, finishing 60th in his first RMAC tournament, he bounced back to finish in the top 15 at the next RMAC tournament. RMAC #3 was hosted on the Mustangs' home course. Beyhan finished tied for third (69-70-77–216). His lowest tournament round came at the RMAC Spring Championship where he shot a 7-under par 66, finishing sixth and placing him on the All-Tournament Team. Beyhan's scoring average was 74.5 for all 32 rounds of tournament play this year.
Maxwell's lowest round of the year came at RMAC #2 where he shot a 69 to finish tied for 11th. He was the most consistent Mustang this year as his scores only ranged from 69 to 78 in all RMAC play. He finished the regular season with a scoring average of 74.
Although Lopez didn't travel to every tournament, he managed to get back in the Mustang top five and travel to all the RMAC tournaments. He placed in the top 20 in every conference tournament. Lopez's best finish of the season was tied for ninth at RMAC #3, shooting 71-74-73–218. He shot his low round 69 at the RMAC Championships earlier this week and finished tied for 18th.
