Riley, Carter Get Nod On First Team

Western New Mexico men's basketball players Chad Carter (Tucson, AZ, Ironwood Ridge High School) and TJ Riley (Tyler, TX, Chapel Hill High School, Lamar University) were named to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference First Team All-RMAC list, the conference office announced Wednesday.

The Mustangs' top scorer, Riley was fourth in the conference in scoring (16.6 PPG), sixth in steals (1.7 SPG), and 10th in minutes played (31.4 MPG). He led the team in scoring 14 of 30 games. The junior had only four game with less than 10 points and six games without a single steal.

Riley was named the Offensive Player of the Week on January 3 for his effort in the two big wins over Colorado Christian and Colorado School of Mines. In the victory over Colorado Christian, Riley nailed the game-winning shot with one tick left on the board. Five Mustangs recorded 10 points or better with Riley being one of them. He had 17 points. Riley finished with a game-high eight rebounds also. Riley then had 22 points with 10 credits coming at the charity stripe in the huge win over, at the time, undefeated Colorado School of Mines.

A one-time RMAC Offensive Player of the Week and one-time RMAC Defensive Player of the Week selection this season, Carter was eighth in the RMAC in scoring (15.1 PPG), 11th in rebounding (5.8 RPG), fifth in blocked shots (1.2 BPG), and ninth in defensive rebounding (4.0 DRPG). He was second on the team in scoring while shooting .474 from the floor and was the dominator on the boards.

Carter finished his sophomore year with only seven games out of 30 of less than 10 points. He recorded three double-doubles and had six games with three blocks. His best weekend performance of the season was just before Christmas break. Carter posted a double-double in the close loss to the UC-Colorado Springs Mountain Lions. He had 28 points and 17 rebounds. In the victory over CSU-Pueblo, Carter notched 18 points and six rebounds. He finished the weekend leading the Mustangs with 23 points and 11.5 boards. Of his 23 caroms on the weekend, 13 of them were on the offensive side. Also in all of his shooting categories, he was at .500 or above.
