Tennis Excels In Classroom

The WNMU women's tennis team recently was honored with the ITA All-Academic Team award. The team had an overall grade point average of 3.61 during the 2009-2010 academic year. In addition, four women and two men received individual academic awards.

On the women's side, Emily Lampman (Kerrville, TX, Tivy High School), Davida Aragon (Arenas Valley, NM, Cobre High School), Sara Nogan (Albuquerque, NM, Cibola High School), and Nikolina Vukadin (Pale, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sredwjoskolski Centar Pale) were recognized. Henning Thrien (Gelsenkirchen, Germany, Carl Friedrick Gaus Gymnasium, Hope International University) and Yair Banuelos (Mexico City, Mexico, Universidal del Valle de Mexico, Riverside Community College) represented the men.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA/CA JUCO eligibility form and have competed in one or more varsity matches must average into the GPA for the academic year (including fall 2009 and spring 2010).

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman thorough senior year).
