RMAC Releases Golf Preseason Polls

The Western New Mexico University golf teams have been picked to finish tied for first (women) and tied for second (men) in the 2010 Preseason RMAC Coaches polls.

The league's head coaches vote on the polls and teams, which were released August 25th. Coaches cannot vote for their own team or golfers.

On the men's side, WNMU is tied for second with Fort Lewis College (24 points each). The Mustangs lost quite a few key players from last year's NCAA Championship qualifying team. Steven Maxwell (Glasgow, Scotland, Bearsden Academy), who earned a spot on the RMAC Men's Golf Preseason All-Conference Team this year, is the only Mustang back from the five participants who played at the championships.

Colorado-Colorado Springs is picked to win the league again (18 points; five first place votes).

For the Mustang women, Mesa State and Western New Mexico each received 10 points to tie for the top spot. Both also received four first place votes.

Playing her final year, WNMU”s Carissa Schwalm (Las Cruces, NM, Mayfield High School), once again, is placed on the RMAC Women's Golf Preseason All-Conference Team. Schwalm finished her junior year strong with an appearance in the NCAA Championships in Phoenix.
