Salvador Garcia (Anthony, TX, Anthony High School) and junior
James Brown (Tallahassee, FL, Amos P. Godby High School, New Mexico Military Institute) were selectees to the 2009 All-Super Region Three Team chosen by the Don Hansen's Football Gazette, Michael Herzberg of Winona State University announced Tuesday.
As the team's number one punt return, number one kick returner, and one of the team's leading receivers, Garcia's efforts paid off as he was listed on the 2009 All-RMAC Football teams twice. Garcia earned nods on the Second Team – Special Teams for his work as a kick returner. He averaged 26.7 yards each return this season to lead the conference. Overall, Garcia had 26 returns for 695 yards. He also was named to the Third Team – Special Teams for his punt return effort. In this category, he posted a 16.6 yard average for a total of 216 yards. He finished the season with 1334 all-purpose yards to rank him third in the RMAC.
Brown played in all 10 games this season and averaged 22.9 rushing yards per game as a fullback for the Mustangs. He finished his first season at WNMU with 229 total yards and one touchdown.
Runner-up Grand Valley State University and the University of Nebraska at Kearney head the list of selectees to the 2009 All-Super Region Three Team chosen by the Don Hansen's Football Gazette.
This marks the eighth year Football Gazette has selected Division II all-region teams. The national publication, an authority on small college football, has selected Division II All-America teams since 1998.
The first-team and second-team All-Region selections advance to a national ballot from which the 2009 Division II Football Gazette All-America team will be named.
Nebraska-Kearney advanced to the second round of the Division II playoffs and placed eight players on the three All-Super Region teams. Grand Valley State had seven players selected, while Minnesota State University Mankato, another team to advance to playoff action, and Chadron State University each received five selections to the three squads.
A total of 19 players were repeat selections, while the final totals showed that 81 players selected from 25 teams earned some form of Football Gazette All-Super Region Three honor.
