Both the men's and women's cross country team had a difficult time at the 24th Annual Lori Fitzgerald Invitational at the Santa Teresa Country Club hosted by the University of Texas – El Paso. The men finished last, 20 points behind El Paso Community College. The women only had three cross the finish line and did not post a team score.
With the top five finishes, the UTEP women's team posted a perfect score of for the first time in the meet's history. The Miner men scored 24 points to also win the event.
UTEP transfer student Robert Menjo won the battle at the men's finish line, finishing the 6.8K with the day's best of 20:54.82. For the Mustangs, transfer student
Matt Snay (Kingman, AZ, Kingman High School, Mohave Community College) edged past teammate
Kempton Jackson (Gallup, NM, Gallup High School) by three seconds to finish 25th and 26th respectively.
Tyler Pino (Acoma Pueblo, NM, Laguna-Acoma High School) was the third purple uniform to cross the finish line with a time of 23:10.6 and a 30th place finish.
On the women's side, sophomore Risper Kimaiyo led the five-woman Miner group as she crossed in a time of 16:07.21 to win her second consecutive race of the season.
Nicole Luna (Pueblo of Laguna, NM, Laguna-Acoma High School) came in first for the Mustangs for the second week in a row. She finished in a time of 19:26.2, good for 30th.
Cassandra Sanchez (Acoma Pueblo, NM, Laguna Acoma High School) and
Amy Roybal (Pojoaque Valley, NM, Pojoaque Valley High School) were the final two runners to come in.
