For the third year in a row, the WNMU men's cross country team was chosen to finish ninth in the conference according to the RMAC Preseason Poll released Wednesday. The women's team has been picked to finish 11th, down one spot from last year.
In the USTFCCCA (U.S. Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association) released Tuesday, conference opponents, the Adams State women, are preseason No. 1 with four other Central schools in the top 21.
Defending men's national champion Adams State is national preseason No. 1 with three other Central Region teams in the top 10: Western State (No. 2), Colorado Mines (No. 8) and Minnesota-Duluth (No. 9). Augustana (No. 17) and Metro (No. 18) round out the Central Region teams in the top 25 poll.
Both the Adams State and Western State men and women were also picked one and two in the conference poll.
The Mustangs will begin the 2009 season on Saturday, September 5 at the George Kyte Classic held at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona.
