The RMAC announced today that
Carissa Schwalm (Las Cruces, NM/Mayfield High School) was placed on the RMAC Women's Golf All-Academic First Team.
Kayla Gonzales (Roswell, NM/Goddard High School) earned Second Team honors; whereas senior
Danica Tarkington (Chamberino, NM/Gadsden High School) found her way on to the Honorable Mention list.
Schwalm had the team's lowest stroke average this season with an 83.11 average. Her best tournament came at the beginning of the season at the first RMAC event. Schwalm followed the 82 she shot on the first day with a 76 on the second day, just four-over par. She tied for first in that tournament. Overall, she finished with seven birdies after 19 rounds of play.
Schwalm was named to the All-RMAC First Team and the RMAC All-Tournament Team in April. She also was named RMAC Golfer of the Week last September.
The sophomore is a movement science major and has a perfect 4.0 after three semesters.
Gonzales also played all 19 rounds this season. She finished her junior season with an 86.53 average and recorded a total of 14 birdies to lead the team. A business management major, Gonzales has a 3.46 GPA.
Tarkington, a former WNMU Student Regent, made the switch from volleyball to golf this year. She will graduate this spring with a movement science degree and a GPA of 3.54.
