Freshman
Kyle Lynch (Albuquerque, NM, New Mexico Military Institute High School) has been named RMAC Men's Tennis Freshman of the Year. He was also placed on First Team All-Conference, the RMAC announced Thursday.
Wilton Atkins (Wanganui, New Zealand, Wanganui Collegiate School, University of North Alabama) and
Flavio Rueda (Mazatlan, Mexico, Universidad Autonoma de Durango, Riverside Community College) also earned awards on Second Team. Sophomore
Luke Salazar (Albuquerque, NM, Valley High School) found a spot onto the Third Team.
Lynch was WNMU's No. 1 singles player for the second half of the season, posting a 10-8 record at that position. When competition first began in February, he played No. 3 singles where he was 3-5. Lynch was also partnered with
Emmanuel Hecher (Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Colegio Pitagoras) and
Valu Fa (Suva, Fiji, Natabua High School, New Mexico Military Institute) at No. 1 doubles. He finished with a combined record of 4-7.
Atkins found time at No. 2 and 3 singles. He finished the regular season 11-13. Rueda started the season at No. 1 and then moved to No. 2 in the second half of the season. He combined for an 8-16 record. Rueda and his partner,
Luke Salazar (Albuquerque, NM/Valley High School), dominated at No. 3 doubles, finishing a spectacular 14-3 on the season. In singles, Salazar came close to .500, posting a 9-10 record.
Each team had six players on it, and the teams were voted on by the coaches in the RMAC.
