Rebecca Reynolds (Benson, AZ, Benson High School) received All-Academic Second Team honors, the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) announced Thursday.
Priscilla Garcia (Albuquerque, NM, St. Pius X High School),
Brittany Shannon (Silver City, NM, Silver High School, New Mexico State University), and
Courtney Reyes (Alamogordo, NM, Alamogordo High School) also earned spots on the All-Academic Honor Roll.
To qualify, student-athletes must have a GPA of 3.20 or better, be a starter or key reserve, and have completed two consecutive semesters or three quarters at their current institution. Their GPA is what they had earned prior to soft ball season beginning. RMAC Sports Information Directors at schools that sponsor the sport of soft ball selected First and Second Team Academic All-RMAC, regardless of position.
Reynolds, a junior second baseman for the Mustangs, has maintained a 3.40 GPA majoring in elementary education. Having played and started in all 44 games this season, she is batting .311 with an on base percentage of .377 and slugging percentage of .510. Reynolds has posted 36 runs, 47 hits, and 28 RBIs.
As one of three WNMU pitchers, Garcia carries a 3.27 GPA majoring in elementary education. She has thrown in 29 games and has an overall record of 11-14, which leads the team. In her 157.2 innings pitched, she has registered 87 strikeouts and a 4.56 earned run average. She currently ranks second in the RMAC in innings pitched, eighth in batters struck out, eighth in wins, tied for first in appearances, and first in games started.
Shannon was another pitcher for the Mustangs. With a 3.45 GPA, Shannon is majoring in secondary education. She made 20 appearances and 31.1 innings this year. Overall, Shannon allowed 76 hits but fanned 13 batters.
A first base, Reyes has appeared in 42 games and is batting .243. Overall she has 27 hits, 18 runs, and 16 RBIs. She leads the team in putouts this season with 223. Reyes has a 3.41 GPA and is majoring in mathematics and secondary education.
“I am very proud of these four individuals and what they have accomplished on the field and in the classroom,” says head coach Scott Woodard. “We have a difficult travel schedule, but these student-athletes figured out how to balance both athletics and academics.”
