Two Mustangs were named to the All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Teams, the RMAC announced today. Senior
Devin Stewart (Tucson, AZ, Santa Rita High School, Saddleback Junior College) earned a spot on the Second Team All-West.
DJ Nicholas (Glendale, AZ, Glendale High School) found his way on to the Third Team All-West.
In his final season, the Tucson-native ranks 12th in the conference in scoring (15.9), 14th in field goal percentage (.508), first in assists (6.33), fourth in steals (2.07), and fifth in assist to turnover ratio (1.76) this season.
Stewart's 13 assists against Hawaii Pacific and University of Colorado – Colorado Springs this season were personal career highs. He also has an incredible six double- doubles on the year.
Stewart, a three-year letter winner and captain this season, is also a member of the 1000-point club. He amassed 1006 points over his career, achieving the 1000-mark last Saturday when he drained 30 points against Adams State. Over his three years at WNMU, Stewart also handed out 308 assists and snatched 266 rebounds.
In 2008, Stewart was named to the RMAC All-West Second Team, and this year was a preseason pick for All-West honors. Stewart is a business management major and will graduate next fall.
Nicholas rounded out his junior season averaging 15.8 points a game, just one-tenth of a point behind leader Stewart. Nicholas also dominated in the rebound and blocking categories with 8.4 rebounds per game and 43 total blocks. He led the team in both offensive and defensive rebounds and blocks.
Overall, Nicholas posted seven double-doubles. His best game of the season came right off the bat in the Mustangs' first meeting against Grand Canyon University. Nicholas recorded ten rebounds, six blocks, and 22 points.
In the conference, Nicholas ranks 12th in steals (1.67), fourth in blocked shots (43), third in offensive rebounds (2.19), first in defensive rebounds (6.19), second in rebounding overall (8.4), and 12th in field goal percentage (.523). The RMAC recognized his efforts three separate times this year, naming him RMAC West Division Player of the Week each time.
